Embroidery Extra (1)

I've designed and trial stitched two dragonflies and a flower. I tried using a lovely gold metallic thread that I've had for years. Maybe it was its age that caused a problem, but after half a dozen thread breaks I gave up

I replaced the thread with a slightly shiny goldish colour and they all stitched perfectly!

hope these are OK Valerie x (We need to have a look at the gold in the patterned fabric against the thread colour chart as I'll need to buy thread as there isn't much left of this one)

  1. Lovely work!
I too had that problem with some metallic thread, kept breaking after a few stitches. But then I discovered that there are special machine needles specifically for metallic threads. Might be worth investing in if you plan to use it often.

  2. So interesting to know about another Valerie who likes dragonflies! This is a perfect first quilt project- simple, but something to use and cherish. Besides metallic or topstich needles, I've had luck recently using silicone spray on old metallic thread. I couldn't find the kind for sewing, so I just used a can we had in the garage. Worked like a charm.

  3. Lovely embroidery, metallic threads are very hard to work with.
