Spring Cleaning

Nearly twenty years ago, oldest daughter received a dolls house which had been lovingly made for her by my very talented father.   It has been really well looked after over the years (especially as she was 5 when she got it), but hasn't been attended to while she's been away, so the dust was fairly thick!

We emptied all the furniture and she cleaned the house while I cleaned the stuff.

Then we put everything back

I wish my house was this tidy!!!!

We looked at making a perspex cover to keep some of the dust off, but that stuff is really expensive.
In Paperchase (scrapbooking dept) I found some sheets of thick plastic, so made this cover.  I think I need a more subtle shade of duck tape!

Happy Hexies

I've got a couple of hand sewing projects on the go for while I'm watching TV, so I thought I'd show you the progress on the larger one:

I actually thought ahead for this project, and drew out the design, and made some partial flowers so I could square off the edges without wasting fabric.  But I didn't think it all the way through - I have nothing left for borders or binding, so it will be the size it finishes at! (It will be about 36" wide)

One of the students at Chertsey Museum, Kay, makes dolls house items: 1/12th scale, 1/24th scale, and even 1/144th scale!!!

She has lent me a book.  My next project involves tracing and cutting hexies that only measure 1cm top to bottom - watch this space!

Two finishes, and My Perfect House

 I have finished the binding on the Pure Blues baby quilt,

 and with some left over fabric and some ribbon I made a taggie too (with spiral quilting inspired by Hadley)

 

I also just wanted to share with you some photos of my perfectly clean house.  My niece came over and moved all the furniture, cleaned all the floors, and organised everything back in it's place

Not bad for an 11 year old eh?

Bank Holiday Monday

We spent yesterday with friends: Carol and Simon and their daughter Rosie, and Jim, at Jim's new house ... decorating!

The boys papered part of the living room wall while Carol supervised

It seemed a bit labour intensive!!!

But they do did a reasonable job!

Meanwhile, Rosie and I kept out of their way, concentrating on another house ...

A felt dolls house will be going to Australia for Christmas, for my niece, India.  I had already made a desk and chair

and two beds

and yesterday I made a fridge and a basin

... while Rosie made most of an oven and sink unit

Did I mention? Rosie is eleven!

How impressive is that?
