2018 Wk 30 - Misc stuff

A few finishes (or nearly finishes)

This machine pieced hand quilted mini sixteener quilt just needs the binding stitched down to the back

This EPP quilt has been finished (and cursed when the red thread ran; I might learn eventually) but I love her anyway)

A few quilts have been hung in Jackie's room ready for next weekend, and the sixteener will join them when she's bound

This I spy quilt has been finished including binding, just waiting for a little person who might want it.

At Stitch we finally assembled our first kits: lots of ladies working

and four of my favourite girls assembling kits

 I received this lovely pic of Amelia Rose on her I spy quilt

And I made this memory box for the girls (thank you Tara for all your help!)

The hearts for the Untangled Thread project need to be with the organisers by the end of July

Tara started our involvement and made this one

I just used pins and beads (and help from daughters) to create mine

And two other friends in the village joined in too -
and WOW!!!

Lindsey embroidered the Welsh Fusiliers crest

And Jane felted poppies in a field

I am reminded of my Grandfather's expression : Those that can, do, those that can't, teach - now we know why I teach crafts!!!!

2018 Wk 26 - a bit of a catch up

 I've been having problems getting photos from my phone to the computer, so I haven't blogged for a few weeks, but today it worked - so here is a quick catch up

Niki's colleague's colleagues all attacked her chemo quilt with fabric pens- and my concern that it was too white has been blown away - doesn't it look great!

I went to Ireland for a few days this last week.  Officially it was to see Jackie, but (shhhhh) there was another person I was eager to meet - this little beauty, Leah, my honorary granddaughter!  We spent lots of time with her big brothers too - D in the pic and A who was at school - my gosh . . .  boys are exhausting!

We made a few bits for Leah (or possibly her mum!): this changing clutch

 and changing mat (it did get finished before being handed over)

And her I-spy quilt was finished and handed over too (pic to follow).  Jackie had been on a course and made this fab elephant pic for Leah's room

We made ourselves some great project trays too, by coincidence we had instructions for two: different sizes, different designers and different methods but very similar result.  They have Peltex 72F (I think) in them which makes them really firm, and the closure action from tray to storage is really satisfying

A friend decided to join in the Untangled Threads art installation to commemorate WW1 - I am totally in love with her heart - she needle felted these poppies in a field and it's beyond awesome!

And Jackie and I bought some pickling jars.  For pickling you ask?  No - of course not - for beautiful buttons!!!!

2018 Wk 19 Chertsey Session & other stuff

Friday's class was making felt balls (wet felting) to make a necklace like this one of mine

These were bought but threaded to give the girls an idea

But as usual, not help was needed!

Rhona also brought her waste weaving creation - a really useful pot!  She plans on cutting a water bottle to size and using it as a vase!

 And finally - I asked my great niece to do a sketch of the village hall that I can use as a logo for the hall committee - hasnt she done a great job!!!

2017 Wk 45 - lots of fun (until someone gets hurt)

It's been a busy week - the best sort of busy with lots of making even it's not all my own!

On Friday night I taught a class making Felted Faries (with help from the very talented Kaye)

 

And on Saturday we hosted the last regular Kids' Crafty Church with half a dozen wonderfully crafty kids:

These boys sat learning how to loom knit and kept going . . . And both want their own looms for Christmas!

 

And their sisters spent ages colouring and sizzixing (another item on the Christmas list!)

 

Meanwhile a very talented mum did the beautiful Remembrance Day flower arrangements

 

Meanwhile my girls have been "un-making" - they learnt how to use a wallpaper stripper (and how to empty 40 years of gunk out of radiators!)

 

And as for me? Customer embroidery

 

And (embarrassed cough) discovering what NOT to do when you are home alone

Apparently it's not a good idea to put a finger under a moving sewing machine needle!! Don't ask what I was thinking - I have absolutely no idea!!!!

I had to ask the nice man next door to pull the broken tip of the needle out of my finger!!! It throbbed for a while but seems to be healing well!

2017 Wk 41 twit twoo

I had hoped to spend the day either creating or at least fondling and stroking my new purchases, but it didn't work out like that - we have spent a lot of it working on the parish accounts - tedious work, and an afternoon I will never get back! Still, while supervising husband I managed to finish Mr Owl - isn't he cute

 

I probably ought to spend tomorrow tidying my sewing room - then I can concentrate on the fondling and stroking!

 

And finally - a bit of really good news - the girls have finally exchanged contracts - and next Friday this will be theirs (along, of course, with a life time of debt!)

2017 Wk 41 Knitting and Stitching Show

I had a lovely day out today with my friend Jane. It was supposed to be Jackie but she had to cancel her trip over so Jane came to keep me company!
I *may* have done a little bit of shopping, and we did two classes. In one we were aiming for this gorgeous owl

Jane finished hers tonight, and he's looking fab

Mine isn't looking quite as detailed!

My shopping haul . . . Fabric, bonding powder, pants, safety pins and a bracelet

The pink bowl and the to-be-finished owl were made in classes, and the felt sheets and felted pebbles were simply because they were gorgeous and cheap!

I also bought some fun vinyl £1 notes! I think I feel some zippy pencil cases coming up. (The notes were <£1 each)

And it was great to see Fiona's 'book cover' on the wall

In other news . . . Plum's daughters' school is contributing to the 70273 project. You can read about the project here but in summary it is to remember physically and mentally disbanded people murdered by the Nazis. . This project aims to gather 70,273 blocks of fabric, marked with two redcrosses to commemorate the number of physically and mentally disabled men, women and children who were murdered between January 1940 and August 1941 in the Aktion T4 Programme - a largely unrecognised atrocitywhich only received a memorial to the victims in 2014.

The two red crosses represent the marks made by the assessing Doctors as to whether the person was deemed ‘unfit’ or an economic burden on Nazi society. It is such a simple symbol, and in this project, the simplicity with which someone could sign someone’s life away is turned into a symbol of love and strength. The white fabric represents the sheet of paper that their death sentence was signed on. Seeing the crosses stitched together sends a powerful message of tolerance, community and love. Its impact comes from the huge variety of these two red marks - each beautiful in their own perfectly imperfect way.

I have done some blocks for the girls to add to their contribution

Avril gave me a lovely birthday pressie - a really pretty note book and some lush buttons!
