2020 Wk 44 - Gingers and Stuff!

I've been experimenting with some new Christmassy Gingers (one is an adaptation of Sue's (Memories in Thread) but the other two are my ideas

And I've made (and lost, but luckily husband then found) a set of Gingers for a friend for her colleagues

I meant to show this lovely Birthday card - I love the eclectic stitching!

A few easy jobs for Lizzie - Sky was given a jacket but it had the previous owner's name on it, so a quick patch was made and stitched on, and can be replaced when it gets handed down to the next one.

And Breeze's baby quilt never had her name added to it so I sort that out too.  I don't often get to see my quilts after they have been gifted and used almost every night since - I worry that they might not stand up to daily use, but Breeze is now 5 and the quilt is still standing up well to all the use and washing!!!

Not so good after washing was one of my much loved sewing themed t-shirts "Weekend forecast is sewing with a chance of wine").  I guess the sewing machine was hungry!

I added a piece of fabric behind, and a bit of random quilting to hold it all together - that'll give it a bit more life!

And Lisa is near the end of her crochet - isn't it awesome!!!!

2018 Wk 46 - work and family

We made these cute birds at Richmond and Kew on Monday: whilst hearing about the results from the Quilt Exhibition.  We took over £6000 - and 1/4 of that was from the bric-a-brak (aka crap) stall - that's all going to charity: isn't that an amazing total.  Just over 600 people came through the doors so they spent and average of £10 each!

I have been working on customer embroideries - tese pathes are for scarves for the football club

and there were zippies and hoodies for them too plus polo shirts and big patches for table cloths for the museum

The village turnout for the 100 Years Remembrance of WW1 was great, and our girls helped 91 year old nanny lay her cross.

I made  a sewing machine needle organiser and some scissor tags for a secret santa gift at Richmond and Kew Quilters

And Mr Postie delivered a lovely squishie of zips from Zipit at Etsy.

Plum gave me a whole load more 1.5" squares for mine and Jackie's mini quilt

I met Pudsey Bear at work

Oh, and I got a new car!!!!! (she's gorgeous!!!)

Hope you had a good week

A Few Finishes

The bulk of the work has been done on these quilts ages ago, but the binding needed finishing.  A few seasons behind the rest of the world we have got into Game of Thrones,  - and plenty of binding can be sewn on during a 50 minute episode!

So the final Cars quilt is finished

And the Bonus shirt fabric quilt for my cousin in Norway is finished - the second *proper* quilt is still in strips on the work bench, sigh, it will be done eventually!

Binding, Book Covers and a Blanket

I've not done much sewing recently - I'm trying to lose weight and as an incentive agreed with Niki that I wouldn't cut into new fabric until I lost 4lbs!

The cars fabric had been cut years ago, so the rules allowed me to make them, and two have now been finished, just a bit to go on the third binding:

And I could make book covers from scraps, so they were allowed - and anyway are samples for a work shop, so were exempt from the rules

At tonight's weight in I've finally lost the last half of the 4lbs, so tomorrow I can start on a new project!!!!

Lisa however has finished a project - her friend Ryan is modelling her granny square blanket!

Well done Lisa! Xx

Copious Cars

Several years ago, probably before I even started this blog, one of the girls wanted to make a quilt for a boyfriend, a boyfriend whose hobby was cars (driving them, taking them apart, fixing them, putting them back together: you get the picture!) He was a handy chap to have around, helping us through the trauma of buying a few cars, and even diagnosing and fixing a starter motor problem over the phone having been woken by the phone call!
Anyhow, he was a lovely lad, and the daughter showed an interest in fabric so I encouraged it and bought some suitable fabric. While I waited for her to start I bought a bit more, and by the time she finished with him there was *cough* quite a lot. We'd cut the fabric into 8" square with a plan to add in black squares as make a vanishing 9 patch, but I now see it would have been HUGE!
I found the squares and joined black to both sides of a few, to make an offset square (LJ7R) design

And even quilted it,
Although I wasn't very happy with the quilting - but as its black the rucks don't show too well on the photos, so I don't need to show you!
There were some more colourful fabrics that were going to be the centre on the 9 patch, and therefore the little squares in the V9P, and they didn't really go in the mostly black layout, so they became their own quilt:

With a bit of echo quilting

And there was still more fabric, so the final one just has a thin sashing to break up the blocks

And I spray basted this one which made a lot of difference to the quilting (centre of each block and each sashing)

Not sure where these are going, but it's very satisfying to use up some old fabric!

(number 3 is just as bright as number 1, but I guess the light was going by the time I took the photo
