Finished with Flags

If you're a regular visitor to this blog you may know about my Lighthouse Quilt (if you want a reminder you can click on the list of labels on the left)

This is a real procrastination quilt - I'd rather do anything than work on it (OK, *almost* anything, I haven't resorted to cleaning bathrooms yet). However, it's been in the making for two years and needs to be ready for an 80th birthday next month, so I really had to get on with it.

The centre was completed about a year ago:

(21st century problems: getting a photo from the blog when you are using an iPad, bah!)

Since then I have added a border of embroidered rope, but nothing more. However with a completely free Saturday I have now managed to create 26 marine alphabet flags

And with a mostly free Sunday I have started joining them so I can add them as a border:

AND I have converted the flags into embroidery designs so the 4 corners will have the birthday message spelt out in flags

So this might actually be finished before the big day!

La Passacaglia Progress

There's hasn't been much sewing happening here as there has been work Mondays to Fridays (of course) and a few trips away at the weekends (yay!).

The trips mean my La Passacaglia has been growing - it's a fab travel project!  I know some of these tops are made from beautifully harmonising fabrics, but mine is all scraps!  I try and choose carefully for the fabrics in each cog, but the next cog will have no relation to the previous!

So my three cogs to date:

And my Poland Project (that's this weekend's travel) has started

The only other sewing related work has been some embroidery for a customer:

Time to get up and pack!  Have a great weekend!

Silk Purse? Or Sow's Ear?

You know the feeling- someone contacts you and the gist of the message is "you like sewing, I'll bring you some stuff".  Sometimes there is a lot of rubbish, or even all rubbish, but occasionally ...

The wooden box intrigued me - I love it

And inside one of the cardboard boxes was this gorgeous set

Other goodies included this bullet shaped and sized thing

But after a little wiggle it came apart to show this ...

And I've got two more boxes to sort as well!

This is definitely looking like a silk purse sort of goodie box!

Warm Weekend

Warm Weekend? That's a lie - it's been blinking cold and a sprinkling of snow last night, but as I've finally finished my crochet cowl / infinity scarf * I * was warm!

It wasn't MEANT to have a twist – after I made a long enough chain I tried to untwist it - I suppose at least there is only one twist!  As it was then a Möbius strip it meant the chain ended up down the middle and each side grew symmetrically which was a bonus!

At least I finally have something to link to Janine's (rainbow hare) wool on Sunday's link!

I've also managed to submit my tax return today, so next week I will be sewing - especially as mum is off to see the Aussie family on Thursday and I haven't yet made their Christmas pressies!

At M-i-L's today I added a few more I-spy hexagons, a whole load of triangles next!

And I thought I'd show you baby Autumn's taggie as made by me - mum says it's well loved!

Isn't she cute!

Woolly Weekend

Today I'm going to link with Janine's Wool on Sunday posts. I have finally finished my crochet fingerless gloves

But let's compare them to the ones that Jackie knitted for me

I think *one* pair can go to the homeless, and the other pair I'll carry on using in the car every morning, you don't need me to specify which pair is which do you?

Another woolly wonder - the girls pulled Alice's hood (snood? Cowl?) down yesterday, and discovered even more attention to detail - look at this fab plait,

And look how I often wear my hair!

And finally, my thermofax screen arrived yesterday, so as soon as I clear some other work (preschool uniforms, tshirt for a friend, weight bags for slimming world, two I spy quilts, etc) I want to have a play!

Wool On Sundays

My friend Janine blogs at Rainbow Hare and is a keen knitter and crochet-er, and runs a linkie every Sunday.

I very rarely link up as I don't (can't) knit, but I can crochet one stitch if someone can cast on for me. A while ago the lovely Carolyn at church started me off for some fingerless gloves. She felt I was ready to progress to a new stitch, but I ended up with this, so clearly I wasn't ready!

She very patiently started me off again, and I now have this:

It needs to be much longer and then I need to do the same again for the other hand, but these will be perfect to driving to school in the autumn / winter when the car is cold and I'm waiting for it to heat up!

(Do you like my ergonomic crochet hook - made with two packs of Sugru - I love that stuff!)

Friday Finishes

It's been rubbish weather most of this week: torrential rain and cold enough I've needed my slippers!! In that sort of weather all I've wanted to do is curl up with a quilt and watch TV.

But I'm also aware that my school holiday is rapidly coming to an end, and I'd like to get my UFO list down a bit before next week, so instead of curling up under a finished quilt I've been under an unfinished quilt, finished the binding on . . .

This one: Five a Day

And this one: Tessellated Red and Cream Stars

And this one: Jilly's Garden Gate

There are, of course, plenty more UFOs, but these are now finished, yippee!

Too Busy to Blog (2)

Photo heavy again - lots more making with Jackie . . .

(We didn't actually make these this weekend, but blew the dust off them and made a plan for them!) Aren't they fab!

We made these binding kits
From this website

And these baskets for our wonderclips,

Jackie's My Small World is looking fab.

She's soon getting to the place where the book says to embroider some city landmarks.

As one of our projects for the weekend was to use the embroidery machine, and as I'd brought the design software with me . . . We've stitched a few landmarks that Jackie has been to

And one to represent this beautiful historic church near where she lives

We also stitched a few tractors for young master Grandson

And then finished off making a zippy pouch with an internal zip pocket

From this magazine
But now, sadly, I'm home again, so life returns to normal. Thank you Jackie for a fab few days xxxx
