2021 Week 26

Sorry - photo overload . . . you have been warned!

I know this is mostly a crafty blog - but I did make this gorgeous girl!!!!

#2 daughter is still best friends with three girls she met at school (aged just 5) and two of then are getting married this year . . . and having the other 3 as their bridesmaids.  The first wedding was last Saturday.

We found the groom

Niki wanted a photo with "Mumma and Papa P" - the brides' parents.  

He started his speech by thanking the bridesmaids and how they'd been in and out of his house so often throughout their childhood he thought of them as extra daughters - that set them all off sobbing . . . luckily I had made plenty of tissue cases so they could dry their eyes!  (Talk to Me ginger is nothing to do with the wedding, he just wanted to be in the photo!)

I made tissue cases with white embroidery for bride and groom (or may have forgotten the change the thread but keep that under your hat!) which went down well too . . . as did the ginger bride and groom!

I was given one of the table displays and am currently drying all the flowers - I'm experimenting with resin but they need to be dry first - 

I've also got some flowers being pressed, and one bud (hopefully) drying in salt

There was a bit of dress lining and a fair bit of dress fabric left after the (very traumatic) taking up of the dress so I made a rope bowl, maybe to put the resin results in.

Clocks and Consequences, and Giveaway Given Away

I have done some more work on Plum's Consequences Quilt.  I can't show you now, but she will get it back on Monday so I can show you properly then.

My Christmas pressie from husband was delayed in the post, and was then cancelled by the suppliers, so it all took a bit longer than planned, but finally a box of clock parts arrived!  And now I have this gorgeous, enormous clock on my kitchen wall

 
And can I hear a Yay! and a Yippee?  I finally got a reply from the giveaway winner, so the scissor case is on its way to Margaret (aka Priscilla Precise) in South Africa, via her daughter in London!

Saturday Sewing

For the first time in what seems like ages I'm sewing today.  In fact I'm multitasking - I've built some Ikea flat pack shelves and cupboards, and while I waiting for husband to do the work surface and other 'man' jobs I've been doing some more embroidery for Baby Mark's mum.

Work in progress on the 'office'.  I didn't think to get a 'before'  but it was a few bits of old work surface on an assortment of wall and floor cupboards with no doors - watch this space for the next stage!

Blackboard Basics

I had a blackboard in my kitchen for a shopping list - we write stuff on it as it runs out, and before I go shopping I take a photo of it on my phone, and use that at Tescos.

The blackboard was pretty

But now my kitchen as *finally* been tiled, it didn't really go any more

So I attacked it with some blackboard paint, and now it fits in much better

I also attacked some storage boxes I use for fabric - if only I'd used decent masking tape rather than poundland stuff these would have worked really well

Stripping and Speed Dating With My Daughter

No, not that kind of stripping, OR that kind of speed dating!

When you left me yesterday, Lisa had come home feeling poorly. 

After TCL, and cat cuddles . . .

 

(two dozen patchwork quilts in the house and I photograph her with a shop bought knitted blanket, sigh!)




. . .  she was up stripping wallpaper in the kitchen

  

. . .  and helping me speed date some quilt blocks.

These blocks started off as a 'will this work?' project with a few blocks

 

Then went into mass production with 2.5" pink or turquoise strips being sandwiched with black, 

Then being cross cut into 2.5 wide three patch blocks (and added to 2.5" x 6.5" pink, and turquoise strips)

And finally being speed dated into a woven pattern . . .

. . . which will hopefully look better once it is stitched.  There are enough blocks to make another one too, but it would have been much easier to use one pink and one turquoise fabric - not three of each!.  The second one will also be woven but the fabric will vary along the 'ribbons': switching between batik, dotty and plain.

I've got a good idea where these quilts are going too (no, NOT on the UFO pile) but I'll tell you about that tomorrow

What 'Cha Got Cooking?

Just to prove I do use the oven occasionally!  Jackie's recipe soda bread, will be ready in 35 mins, yum yum
