Sunday Sewing

Today I've been mostly doing the boring bit of  patchworking: monotonous sewing of one block to another - for hours on end!

But the two zigzag quilts are starting to come together.

More exciting is this finished cushion:
which I've made for M's younger sister, and this top that Jackie and I started on my last visit, and she's now assembled:

Made for M

The Sorbet Squares quilt was finished at lunch time at school and presented to M at the end of the school day as she heads off for her first round of chemo

Is it a hug

 Or a super hero cape?

Thinking of you M xx

Bulk Basting

I've been to mums today and took double advantage of her having uncluttered rooms - at hers there is space to spread out a quilt or two and spray baste them:

Sorbet Squares Extra

A while ago I made a flimsy that I called sorbet squares.  It looks lovely from a distance, but I'm not very pleased with the points: I used too big a stitch and some seams are pulling open.

So today, in between manning the road to slow down nutters driving through floods, and answering work emails (I worked out how to hack into the system from home), I had a little  play with my embroidery software:

I created this flower applique, and used some of the left over sorbet squares to experiment with adding some flowers which coincidentally hide the dodgy seams

I really like these!  So now I'm ready to finish the quilt, AND make a cushion to go with it

Another day!

(I think I may have to go back to work tomorrow: the floods levels are dropping in my village even though you are probably seeing lots of Wraysbury on the news still - and we did get a visit from some very nice (young) army lads checking up on all the residents, they must have wondered what the fuss was about - in the sunshine, walking on practically a dry road!!!!)

Sorbet Square Sewing

I picked up some really pretty sorbet shades fabric a few days ago, it feels like cotton, but is only poly cotton (I tested it with a lighter), but it was too pretty to leave behind in the shop

I cut  5 inch strips across the width of the fabric, stitched the strips together and then cross cut (again at 5 inches) and staggered them as I stitched them back together

Nothing very technical, but a fun quick make and very cheerful fabric
