2017 Wk 4 - Mostly Machine Embroidery (and crochet)

I haven't done any sewing this weekend: still recovering from the lurgy, and assorting picking up and putting away requirements, but I did manage to stitch out two customers' orders, and do some designing for Amo

First I'm sharing Lisa's finished crochet  blanket - isn't it fab!!!

A friend asked for luggage tags for her and her husband: easily done

And the Scouts wanted badges for the scouts, cubs, brownies and guides that delivered Christmas post in the lead to Christmas - another easy project

Amo send me a couple of logos to see if I could do anything with them.  The rainbow will be difficult to design and to stitch, so I've done that one as an applique in the hope she can find the right rainbow fabric.  She has an embroidery machine but not the software to create designs

2017 Wk 3 - mostly pyrography

As well as my 'day job' I am also Clerk to the Parish Council and this week that has taken up much of my spare time, so no proper sewing this week.
I played with the pyrography kit- I've bought letters in addition to the shapes: they have a great result

I tried the rings on the bunting as the flags tend to twist a bit otherwise

I'm not sure I like the beads with the flags, but with just the rings the flags bunch up together. I'll work on it!
I did do some fabric related work . . . Some fun keyrings to identify stuff around the house

And I received a fab pair of fingerless gloves - thanks Jackie xxx

2017 Wk 2 - Mostly a quilt

This has been a bit of a 15 minutes of fun project: doing a little bit of work whenever I get a bit of time, but today I managed a few hours and got it close to being finished.

I was given the fabrics as a small jelly roll for Christmas. I took out a few strips of the off white, and added the navy. I cut the width of fabric strips - some into 1/3 and 2/3 and some in half. I joined them all together in a single strip 16m long, then took the two ends and started joining them lengthwise, and again and again ... I seem to remember these were called 1600 foot quilt tops, but my jelly roll was probably half that.

Pretty eh?

Just need to finish the finding

In other news, this Star Wars man and lady, complete with light sabers were made for me at Sunday School this morning

2017 Wk 2 - mostly Kids Crafts

We hosted a Kids' Crafty Church this afternon, and girls from 4 lovely families joined us. We had girls knitting, sewing and playing with pipe cleaners.

Daisy's loom knitting grew from this to this in just an hour - not bad for a 9 year old!!!!

While her sisters stitched these

Jess also had a go at loom knitting - a bigger loom takes longer to grow but she's doing great!

Georgia tried the knitting but went back to sewing - some lovely blanket stitch there

And little Isla had great fun with pipe cleaners - with a bit of help from Grandad

And in other news . . . look what I've been asked to rehome!

I just have to make sense of the instruction book!

2017 Wk 1 - More Kantha & Machine Embroidery

At Friday's class on Kantha I stitched a section of fabric too.  I did the centre circle at the class, and did the other circles as we watched 6 (yes! SIX!) episodes on Game of Thrones series 5 on TV last night

And today I have made both samples pieces into zippy poches

While I was stitching them I had the embroidery machine going too.  Girlfriends and I have a weekend away every autumn: (and occasionally in the spring too) and I have been making patches to go on backpacks for all the girls.  By the look of the sample sheet I've been doing this for many years!!!

So here are the ones for the most recent trip.  We went to Krakow and did go to Auschwitz but I know some of the girls would not want to be reminded of that, so I used the fact that we had also seen the annual Dachshund Parade while we were there.   These were fun to design:  I really like the stand alone version (top) but it will be difficult to sew onto the bags without the stitches being very obvious, so I have changed it to patches

2017 Wk 1 - mostly Kantha

Christmas new year seem to be months ago rather than one week ago!  Yesterday was the first 2017 Fun With Fabric session at Chertsey Museum.  We looked at Kantha stitching, and had a play!

This was my sample

And these were the other examples I gave the ladies

Didn't take them long to get the idea!!!!  I'm really looking forward to seeing these next month!

And Ann brought back her felt Christmas decorations from last month - how cute are these?

Project Planning

I don't know when I'll next get time to sew, but I need to be ready!

This project needs more fabric (will hopefully be sorted on Friday)

And this project has been tidied up, and needs backing (will hopefully be sorted on Thursday)

I was also quite sure I'd blogged about my first pyrography attempt, but if I did the internet has eaten in, so here it is

The bunting flags are only about an inch wide, but it's not too shabby!!!!

Back to work tomorrow

The holiday is over and I'm back to work in 12 hours, so the sewing room has been put away for a while :-(

I did manage to assemble and quilt my warm triangles quilt

And I've stitched down the binding on the white zigzag quilt

Now I can plan and shop for the next projects!!!!
