Following yesterday's reverse applique, I thought the fabric would work well as a wide mouth pouch. I found Anna Noodlehead's fab instructions, but my fabric piece didn't quite lend itself to her method, so I bodged it a bit
The pouch does everything it's meant to:
It looks fab
It opens really wide
But it's not quite stable!
I suspect its because I made the fabric into a tube, THEN added the zip,and I guess I've distorted its shape, but it does hold whatever I want to throw into it, and I do love the grey / red combo
I started this blog for me - it expanded to show BFF Jackie what I was doing - and a few others have invited themselves too - everybody welcome! Mostly about patchwork, with random comments about embroidery, family and life in general, come on in, put your feet up, and I'll put the [virtual] kettle on.
Stick a brick inside (equivalant), zip it up and stick it in a corner for a week or two. See if it behaves better.
ReplyDeleteI like Kathy's idea - you could also put in a plastic canvas base (cover it with co-ordinating fabric) - that'll make the bottom stable, and the sides are probably stable enough to stand on their own then. Or use the brick ... HA! I think you made a very lovely pouch!
ReplyDeleteI love the depth of it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Hopefully it'll balance better with time :)
ReplyDeletewhat a great way to use your reverse applique piece, such a useful pouch, never mind it does not stand too well, sometimes that happens to me too
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have your sewing creativity back! Looks great to me!!
ReplyDeleteFor me is beautiful.I didn´t tried the wide pouch so can´t help.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Will probably straighten out over time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award: https://eveninginthegarden.wordpress.com/2015/10/31/one-lovely-blog-award/
It is just a bit tipsy Benta, I am sure once it is full of your bits and bobs it will be much steadier :)
ReplyDeleteAt least the bottom of it looks just as good as the sides :) This was a really good use of your reverse appliqué.
